Happy Changes

Thursday, November 29th, 2012

I have something exciting in the works. After several months of brainstorming, not blogging, blogging, not blogging, I think I’ve finally found Happydally’s place in the blog world.

While my favorite part of blogging is trying to find a way to make people laugh, my secret wish is to blog a lot more about running. And not running. But the two don’t always fit well together. (Some people realllyyy don’t want to hear about why my shoe laces are wonky in the picture above. Some of you will comment for the first time wanting to know what is wrong with my stupid right foot.)

But have no fear, blog friends who only run when being chased. I have the perfect place for you.

That’s right betches, I named a blog after myself back in 2004 and it is time to pull that vintage site out of the suitcase and sprinkle some glitter on it. Or at least a little turquoise.

It will be all about my 2,367 other interests. Oh and fabulous.

Stay tuned. :)

Currently November

It’s NOVEMBER!? What happened to October?

If you are here from Across the Pond, can I just say Meg’s travel photos are KILLING ME with envy.

I need an Ireland Vacation NOW!

Lately I’ve been busy. I’m an aimless volunteer.

You name it, I’ve been volunteering to do it.

Destination Imagination, JDRF Walk For the Cure, Voting Rights for Dogs…ok that one I made up.

Farley at Oh Boy Fourth Grade always reminds me it is a new month and therefore time for a Currently update!

School has been crazy, I have had an event almost every single day except on Sundays for the past month, and I am TIRED.

My goal for November is to catch up on three things:

1. Revenge (The show people…sheesh I am not that evil…or am I?)

2. Running Mileage-I’m supposed to be at 4.5 and I am really only doing 3.5 easily right now.

3. BLOGGING! Everything I’ve been up to lately has kept me from blogging and I am NOT a happy dally.

I am working on a FABULOUS new Blog Theme for HappyDally.  Hopefully by next week things will look very different around here.  I can’t wait to share. Here is a hint…I was inspired by these:

What are you up to currently?

September Currently

Have you been to Krazytown lately? If not, go visit and congratulate her on winning some BIC Velocity Pens and Pencils. Thanks Suzanne for posting on Happydally Facebook page !  So far, I’ve only found the pencils. I’ll keep looking!!!

Here is my September Currently from Oh Boy Fourth Grade.

Now that Labor Day is over, can I finally wear these?

Local Love: Avocado Cafe and GIVEAWAY

Thursday, August 30th, 2012

No cats were harmed during the making of this post. We’ll get to that later.

If you are visiting me from Oh Boy Fourth Grade, I was right. I told Farley I didn’t want thousands of fans seeing my chipped nail polish and wack makeup. Lucky for me you were probably too blinded by my yellow sweater to notice! If you aren’t visiting me from Oh Boy Fourth Grade, what are you thinking???? GO VISIT HER AND THEN COME BACK HERE! :)

Last week  I visited a brand new cafe in the Bracken Village in NE San Antonio for lunch.

Who knew there were so many yummy uses for an avocado!

I thought the name was cute and earthy, but I never guessed most of the menu really would include avocado. (DUH)

The moment we walked in the door, we were hit up with FREE dessert samples!   I LUV me some dessert before the main course.

BTW teacherbarbies, my trick for telling kiddos how to know the difference between dessert and desert is that eating DESSERT is TWICE as nice as being in the hot DESERT.

There is your squirrel lesson for the day.

OK, back to the avocado yumminess.

I had the avocado, chicken, and provolone sandwich. There was another wedge, but I had gobbled it down like I was on lunch duty or something before I took the photo.

It was DELICIOUS!!! RANDOM FACT- I have not consumed avocado in NINE YEARS until this sandwich people.  After living in Costa Rica with an avocado tree in my backyard (which meant it was included in most meals) I swore off avo for awhile. OH yeah and rice and beans. Sheesh can a girl get some MEAT ?  Living in Costa Rica definitely sent me on the path of pastry overload, because I couldn’t eat rice and beans three times a day.

the Avocado Cafe delights weren’t done.

We had CELERY and dip in lieu of chips and salsa brought to the table. Some of you will gag, but I found it so random I gobbled them up.

I had trouble finishing my food because I was distracted by the country chic design. Old table, lanterns hanging from a branch, and a birdhouse? I may never leave.

Who needs a Cat in a Hat when you can have a Cat in a BOX!

Seriously though, you should check out the Avocado Cafe if you are nearby, or not! You can stop in my favorite jewelry place Bless Your Heart next door in the big red barn!

SO, if you haven’t already read Farley’s post about the perfect pens BIC sent her, here is your chance. Go to Farley’s blog and check out the pens and pencils. Comment there and you have a chance to win her giveaway. Then LIKE my Facebook page for Happydally  and tell me you commented on Farley’s blog. If you managed to jump through those two hoops, you will have a chance to win the Velocity BIC pens from me!!!   Heather and Farley weren’t lying. That pen was SMOOOOOOOOTHHHH.

One post will be randomly selected from Happydally’s Facebook page on Tuesday! SO get on over there!!! If we were in South Carolina it would be GIT!

Manis and Margaritas!

Friday, August 3rd, 2012

Happy Friday Everyone!

Cheers to the last free weekend of the summer Teacherbarbies!! School starts soon, and I am so glad I’ve had time to relax this summer with friends and family. Though I’ve already started working on writing curriculum this week, the 9-5 hours gave me plenty of time to PARTY!! Who knew that being able to sleep until 8am would equal a much better nightlife!?!

Tuesday night, my friend Jodi and I celebrated my San Antonio Tidbits  giveaway win at the JW Marriott Lantana Spa!!

We had such a fabulous time! I can’t believe I’ve been teaching only 10 minutes away from this little gem for 2 years!?!

The spa is beautiful, and the staff were so welcoming. The pear margarita was DELICIOUS!

After  margaritas, manicures, and a spa tour, we thought we would give ourselves a “tour” of the resort. We casually strolled around the JW and decided this was our new Staycation of choice! Mom and dad, feel free to book a room here anytime! I’ll come stay with YOU!

Not only do you have a fabulous spa and restaurants to choose from, but you have a scenic golf course and lazy river. There is even a marshmallow roasting pit complete with staff members to put the marshmallows on your stick!

Something I thought was great about the Lantana Spa, is any spa service gives you access to the spa and pool facilities for the day (8am-8pm)! That means you can enjoy a day at the resort but go home to sleep in your own bed! lol :)

I see another manicure and pool day in my near future…hint hint Farm Boy. You can go to the driving range!

This would also be a perfect way for a group of girlfriends to spend a Friday afternoon!

We were having so much fun, I forgot to take more photos!  I guess I will have to go back so I can update my post! 😉

Thanks so much to San Antonio Tidbits and the Lantana Spa. I love reading their San Antonio newsletter. If you want a great resource for the best food, fashion, and community events going on in San Antonio (or one of the many other cities available), be sure to check out the Tidbits newsletter!

We're not in San Antonio anymore...oh wait we are!

My dermatologist called me today.

Unfortunately, it is skin cancer-basal cell carcinoma.

Fortunately, everything I’ve read so far says this is a slow growing cancer. Hopefully REALLY slow.

Unfortunately, I have to go to the skin cancer specialist and have another procedure.

Fortunately, I read 3 cups of coffee a day helps reduce your risk of skin cancer (heading out to buy another Keurig for my classroom to work on preventing any more recurrences).

Unfortunately, I think it’s gonna hurt. boo, hiss as my friend would say.

SO I write this to say stop surfing the internet and go put on some SPF 50. Go buy a floppy hat while you’re at it.

OH yeah and go to the dermatologist.

It’s About Time

Monday, July 16th, 2012

This morning I went to the dermatologist. I left with an extra hole in my nose.

OK, that is an exaggeration, but I did have to have a biopsy.

I’ve had a “bump” on my nose for months that has been driving me crazy.  I realized it wasn’t a stubborn blemish recently when it started bleeding for no reason.  This was when I freaked out and called the doctor.

Before she did the biopsy, she gave me a shot in the bump to numb my nose.

I couldn’t feel the scraping, so that is good news. The bad news is I have to wait a week for my results.

I am a daily sunscreen wearer.  I use this stuff underneath my makeup. I also use their body sunscreen. Hopefully it helps. :)

To reward myself for not punching the dermatologist in her face, I went watch shopping.

(I know…I should reward myself with exercise, but I am scared to get the nose sweaty)

I’ve been pining for this Michael Kors beauty.

I love it because it is gold (my new fave) and tortoise (which is very popular right now) but it isn’t boring.

But for $200 I could buy 1/4 of an iPad.

This is where waiting on a prescription at HEB comes in handy.

I had 30 minutes to kill, so I walked next door to Stein Mart. (I’ve never shopped there…it wasn’t bad!)

That is when I found my new watch!

For $39 dollars I got the gold and tortoise look, and it is unique with the circles! I’m in love!

BTW- It is not easy to take a picture of your own wrist.

I have been SO lazy since I got home. Darn you Bravo and your Million Dollar Listings marathons.

Have you had a screening lately?

Dear CoCo

Dear CoCo,

Thank you for inspiring me to get a spray tan and show my thighs to the world.

Because of you, I can save money and not have to buy a bigger swimsuit. Who cares that I have some extra curves up top?

I appreciate the way you promote outdoor exercise by doing those leg kick thingys.

I also think my dog Sherman would enjoy a trip to the beach.

CoCo, you are the best.

Eat, Sleep, Jog

This is what I’ve been up to in Oklahoma. Mostly focusing on the eating!

Beef Jerky, the Breakfast of Champions

Wednesday, June 27th, 2012

Thanks to teaching grammar ALL DAY, (no joke) I’ve been too tired to blog.  Just looking at my poorly constructed sentences, and my frequent comma errors is making me have self-esteem issues.

Ok, not really…but still. I’m losing my mind a bit talking about pronoun agreement. Who has the time to say HIS OR HER in every sentence!

I’ve also been eating like a crazy lady!  This morning I’m too tired to make breakfast so I had beef jerky and coffee.

How paleoish of me!

Where is the MUFFIN category!?

I have three things I want to share this morning before I must get ready to face those eager 8th graders again.

1.) Watching Jef with one F on the Bachelorette play with marionette dolls, while I’m running at the gym= laughing out loud and people staring at you. I have a strong aversion to that name, but he is my favorite so far!  Watching trashy tv makes 2 miles fly by on the treadmill.  If Emily doesn’t choose Jef with one F in the end, he would make a great Manny!

2.)  I am SERIOUSLY unhappy with my Teacherbarbie store of choice.  Can you really only keep maxi skirts in stock that are only size XS or XL?  Is there a shortage of S,M,L lengths of blue and black fabric? Do I need to start shopping at J.Crew instead!?

3.) I am SO excited to share that my trainer did not kill me yesterday! I explained my struggles with sitting last week, and she quickly changed up our plans to include more reps with lower weight! It was a great workout, and I came home to eat 3 granola bars to celebrate! lol

Ooo I almost forgot. My new favorite toy at the gym are the TRX straps.

I had seen these things previously at the gym, but didn’t know what to do with them. They were so much more fun than lifting weights!

Tomorrow I start Ballet again at the fancy gym in the suburbs. I am driving 30 minutes so I can feel like this!

Have a FABulous Wednesday!
