Happy Changes

Thursday, November 29th, 2012

I have something exciting in the works. After several months of brainstorming, not blogging, blogging, not blogging, I think I’ve finally found Happydally’s place in the blog world.

While my favorite part of blogging is trying to find a way to make people laugh, my secret wish is to blog a lot more about running. And not running. But the two don’t always fit well together. (Some people realllyyy don’t want to hear about why my shoe laces are wonky in the picture above. Some of you will comment for the first time wanting to know what is wrong with my stupid right foot.)

But have no fear, blog friends who only run when being chased. I have the perfect place for you.

That’s right betches, I named a blog after myself back in 2004 and it is time to pull that vintage site out of the suitcase and sprinkle some glitter on it. Or at least a little turquoise.

It will be all about my 2,367 other interests. Oh and fabulous.

Stay tuned. :)

Running in the Dark

Thursday, September 20th, 2012

Tonight I ran in the dark for the first time. Like really dark. I had a light, but it wasn’t bright enough.

I did not look like this.

I was late to the start due to a parent meeting at school.  I started several minutes after everyone had taken off on our 1 miles timed run. My coach told me to follow the arrows and I should catch up to the walkers. I suddenly started to wonder if had missed the arrows. I couldn’t see street sign names either. I was scared to the point of calling out the names of my friends I couldn’t see ahead of me, in hopes someone would be there.  Finally I saw a flashlight beam ahead and started yelling, FLEET FEET?? FLEET FEET?

We are now officially the No Limits 8K group. Yep, we are wimpin out and just working towards 5 miles.

Thank goodness, because my feet hurt so badly of teaching each day I don’t know how I will go even 5 miles.

Apparently running scared really helps your time. I made it in under 11 minutes trying to catch up with people! It was awesome. Now I know that is slow, however it is an improvement over my 105 degree 13 minute miles this summer.

Like a herd of turtles...

I start SmartBarre classes tomorrow. I get to relive my old ballet days!

Someone go back to the 90s and get me that skirt!

The Shoe Club = Shoe Heaven

Saturday, August 18th, 2012

Today I PR’d! Not that this is difficult when your run at a turtle’s pace.

We did it NOBO2! We ran through the hottest summer in history!

I enjoyed the Sunrise 5K at the Alamo Heights Pool. It was the most crowded race I’ve done in awhile. I unfortunately started out too far in the front of the pack with the rabbits, and this killed me in my time by the last mile…so tired!  Farm Boy was waiting for me at the last 300 meters and actually ran alongside me, that is until I waved him off cause I thought I needed all the air I could get. I was so HOT! My personal trainer ran the race as well, and waited to “cheer” me on at the end.

Even Instagram can’t hide my tired eyes! lol This is Lauren my trainer. If you don’t know me, she is obviously the fitter one. :)

Typically when we workout she is all sweet and positive. Today she was standing about 100 meters from the finish line and she gave me the meanest “DON’T SLOW DOWN” yell I’ve ever heard. It worked. I hauled it in at 35 mins and 45 seconds. That is an 11:31 min mile pace. Not bad. My new turtle name is Trot. Trot the Tortoise or Hot to Trot?

After running the Sunrise 5K this morning, I was starving…for NEW SHOES!

I needed to replenish all those "nutrients" I lost while running. ;)

Luckily, this is tax-free weekend in Texas. This can only mean one thing.

Every store is packed and likely out of your size.

Unless you are smart like me, and you go to the local stores like The Shoe Club in the Quarry Market area (across from the Quarry).

I left with THREE pairs of fabulousness.

Black and Gold-My old High School Colors!

Because sometimes you need Silver

I’m in love my new ballet flats. I could probably buy a pair in every color if I won the lottery. They are buttery soft, with enough flexibility to wear comfortably. I will have to see if they pass the teacher death stand test.

The third pair is the most fabulous, but I’m saving them for after Labor Day.  I’ll give you a hint.

They are from the fall TOMS collection.

Did you do any Back to School Shopping this weekend?

How to Celebrate the End of Summer School

Saturday, June 30th, 2012

This is how we do it in the SA!  Viva la Margarita!

Farmboy treated me to a delicious dinner at SoLuna since I didn’t go TeacherNinja on any 8th graders!

Best tortilla soup in San Antonio @SoLuna

I am excited to really begin summer break! I suppose as long as I teach in San Antonio, I will never have a break during the month of June.

I am also proud to say I finished 2.75 miles this morning with my No Boundaries running group.

Thanks Christina for the photo!

Where’s Waldo?

I’m the tiny head at the top of the stairs in a white hat. Seriously, I do not look good at 7am with no makeup. Pull that hat over those dark circles girlfriend!

Actually,  I think my eyes are closed! lol

Here I am waving at my mentor. I will probably have nightmares about giant flying fish! OH and I am NOT 8 months pregnant. The shirt is pooching out because I’m waving (not because I eat cookies for breakfast).

I’m excited to be heading to OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOklahoma where the wind comes sweeping over the hills (there are no plains where I grew up).

Kettlebell Rhymes With…

Thursday, June 21st, 2012

Have your muscles ever been so sore you can’t sit down on the loo without crying?

Can someone get me one of these?

I thought I’d be hardcore and start doing weekly personal training sessions. Ok, I’m not hardcore…More like Flabby McFlabster, but I am very motivated these days to change that until I see a Chick Fil A.

Seriously! Have you tried these yet? They are like crack!

Little did I know I wouldn’t be able to walk for the following two days.

My favorite part of the workout (besides when it was finished) was the part when she asked me to give her four more of some ab workout and I cried like one of those people on The Biggest Loser saying, “I can’t give you four more! My legs feel like concrete!”

You think you can eat Chick Fil A Cookies before you come here?

Seriously though, my trainer Lauren was very sweet and positive. I think she overestimated my abilities a tiny bit, but I gave her my best. I think we need to work more on upper body than quads next week, because I couldn’t even finish my run last night I was hurting so much. After 1.5 miles I dropped out of my faster running group and started walking the last half mile with the walk fit group. It was actually fun, we were able to have an entire conversation about real-estate before we reached the finish line!

Tonight I will be going to yoga to stretch out these legs one more time before I try weights again Friday!

Have you ever had trouble sitting on the loo because your muscles were so sore!?

Gym Rat

Saturday, June 16th, 2012

I lose! The heat won! I can no longer continue to run in this heat/humidity. :(

After a dismal run on Monday, I caved and went to rejoin my old gym (Spectrum) except now it is owned by Gold’s Gym!

I can’t say that I’m glad it is owned by Gold’s now, but I really don’t have any other option in San Antonio.

It is kind of like the grocery store situation. This town is overrun by HEB grocery stores.

Can we get a Kroger or a Randalls for some variety please?  Thank goodness Trader Joes is coming!

I also signed up for four personal training sessions!  When the trainer asked me what my fitness goals were, I laughed and said that anything would be an improvement.  I also informed her that I avoid the weights area because there are too many sweaty boys there. She looked at me like I’m weird. Is that weird? There really are too many old, creeper, sweaty dudes there! Not hot, ignore me and let me do my thing young dudes. They all look 46, divorced, and just dying to stare at some girl doing bicep curls. Ok…maybe I exaggerate because the only thing someone would stare at me doing is adjusting a wedgie, but still you get the idea!

Sorry I couldn’t resist googling that image.

Either way I’m super pumped to go back to Body Pump! This is the weights class (set to really fun music) that you have to stand in line for 15 minutes early to get a number and hope you make it in. Nothing says fitness like standing in line for 15 minutes. (eyes rolling)

I was very excited to run on the treadmill with your personal tv screen. I watched an episode of Bravo’s Tabitha Takes Over! That chick is mean and awesome! I was almost afraid she would yell at me to go faster. I want her to visit my salon and tell them to paint the wall where color has splashed and stained it. Ick.

You think 4.5 MPH is fast? You get on that treadmill and you RUN!

Last night I went to a Premiere  jewelry party at my friend Michelle’s house. The theme of my purchases was Classy Girls Wear Pearls since almost everything I purchased had pearls.  I will model my goodies once they come in!

It is time to drink my coffee and get my work done!

T minus 2 days til I am teaching 8th graders all about the PSAT! WTH was I thinking?

Quote of the Day

Saturday, June 9th, 2012

This morning was 2 mile long run with hills from Fleet Feet.
It didn’t go so well for me.  I thought I was going to die on the last hill.  Not sure if the smurf socks helped or not today.

It was all worth it though just to hear this conversation once we were back inside the store.

Lady 1: Have you seen these Moving Comfort Sports bras?

Lady 2: Yeah, they are nice, but they aren’t very cute.

Lady 1: It’s not about cute it is about protecting the girls.

Lady 2: Oh I know honey, I paid big bucks for these things, I am definitely going to protect them.

HAHAHA!!!!

Then I found this little gem.

Had I only seen this ad earlier I could have thrown that into the conversation!

NOW It is time to drink my coffee and make an omelet.

What are your Saturday plans?

Just Call Me Smurfette

Tuesday, June 5th, 2012

You can call me Smurfette since I have started running in these.

These are CEP compression socks.

It really looks like two sausages fighting to get out of blue tubes when I’m wearing them…not a pretty sight.

That sounds disgusting, but I don’t know how else to describe it!

I’ve always had chubby knees and thighs. Nothing like highlighting this fact with bright blue calves.

Saturday my achilles tendon was sore after our long run…at least that is what Dr. Dally diagnosed it as.

Ice, rest, whining, worry…I gave myself a few days off to figure out what to do.

That is when a lightbulb went off! SHOPPING! Shopping fixes everything!

So I bought these socks and more Triggerpoint toys.

I am pretty much a one-woman athletic store up in here.

And I thought my photography habit was expensive!

SO 1.5 miles later I feel pretty good. We shall see if this project continues to be a success.

Now to fuel up at Thai House with Farmboy. I LOVE lunch at Thai House on Rittamin Rd. It is da bomb! Here I come Cheesy Rolls!

Do you have an expensive hobby?

That’s a Wrap

Saturday, June 2nd, 2012

This school year is officially over! Keys turned in, files stacked and passed along, headaches doctored.
I am DONE!

I am so happy to be finished with a less than thrilling year.

I have been tired, cranky, negative and mean.  Time to close that door and look for another one! Ok, enough about that. I do not ever want to blog or talk again about this year. lol I am DONE!

ON to my summer blogging fun!

This morning was my No Boundaries 2 long run at Olmos Basin.

Do you see me? I’m the chubby girl on the left in a white hat. I’ve noticed since I’ve gained so much weight I have really squinty eyes. lol

I cannot say enough great things about this group. I am so impressed with how upbeat and positive they all are. The mentors (in red) keep us moving and it almost feels too easy at this point (it isn’t easy, but having a group makes it go by quickly).  I also love that they have a Walk Fit group for people who are wanting to be active. It is so inspiring watching them work it on the course. YOU GO LADIES! Their mentor Mari is hilarious.

The only complaint I have is that one lady brings her greyhound named Baron to run on Wednesdays and Saturdays (see him up front!).  This gives me new puppy fever.  As I’ve mentioned before, I have no interest in babies…just more puppies (or rescue greyhounds in this case). He is SO sweet and quiet. I love watching him jog along.  My mom (Sherman’s Nana) says I’m not allowed to get another dog because Sherman would no longer be the center of attention.

I'm King of this Castle

I guess rescuing a giant greyhound will just have to wait.

After running almost 2 miles, we were treated to hot and ready STARBUCKS!

You cannot beat that.

I made my traditional post-Saturday run stop here:

This bakery is DELICIOUS! I had a Cheddar Bacon Scone

and bought a Carrot Pecan Muffin for later.  To increase my own muffin top of course.

I stopped by Target to get a new swimsuit.  I plan to spend time reading at the pool around 9am most mornings…before the little children are up and and wreaking havoc at the apartment pool.

Picture this suit with about 40 more lbs! Super Sexy

Since I plan on finishing Insurgent (book 2 of the Divergent series) this weekend, I bought this book to take to the pool.

This book looks creeptastic!

Here is the book description on Amazon.com:

A mysterious island. An abandoned orphanage. A strange collection of very curious photographs.

It all waits to be discovered in Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, an unforgettable novel that mixes fiction and photography in a thrilling reading experience. As our story opens, a horrific family tragedy sets sixteen-year-old Jacob journeying to a remote island off the coast of Wales, where he discovers the crumbling ruins of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. As Jacob explores its abandoned bedrooms and hallways, it becomes clear that the children were more than just peculiar. They may have been dangerous. They may have been quarantined on a deserted island for good reason. And somehow—impossible though it seems—they may still be alive.

A spine-tingling fantasy illustrated with haunting vintage photography, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children will delight adults, teens, and anyone who relishes an adventure in the shadows.

Freaky!  The book is filled with all these strange but real black and white photos too!

As you can see, I’m ready for summer.

What are you looking forward to most this month?

A Long Hiatus

Sunday, May 20th, 2012

My break from blogging is over.

I try not to blog unless I have something nice to say (words of wisdom from the movie Bambi).  I still can’t think of many nice things, but I wanted to catch up on the past month.

I turned 30 on April 28th.  I’d be a liar if I said this didn’t bother me.  THIRTY?  I am in the phase of being neither young or old. Just in my thirties.

I feel like I should go buy a house or have some sort of minor cosmetic surgery to celebrate the milestone.  Botox?

Despite my dread of the new number, we had a great weekend.

Farm Boy and I met my parents in Dallas to celebrate.  There was a lot of eating and more eating.

Birthday Celebration Weekend Day 1

Our first food adventure was in the Bishop Arts District at Eno’s Pizza.

Farm Boy's favorite bridge in Dallas

Mom and dad, or as Sherman calls them Nana and Papa

A Yummy pizza place in Bishop Arts District

The famous Chocolate Sack Sundae

While the pizza was yummy, the most delicious part was the dessert.  As you can see the Chocolate Sack sundae was HUGE! Trying to tackle the chocolate sack was half the fun.

I’d love to go back to the Bishop Arts district and try several other places. We were able to have brunch the next morning at the Mockingbird Lane Cafe Brazil, but there is also one found in this cute block.

What is your favorite place to eat in Dallas?
